D4.1 Algorithms and Implementation of Single User Incentive Design

We describe our work of developing non-monetary incentives for increasing motivation and improving productivity and engagement for single users. We elaborate on our research and implementations of harnessing a recommendation based method focusing on increasing engagement and satisfaction by matching tasks to users. In our research we take a computational based approach, which uses participants’ interaction histories in the system to predict their future responses to considered incentives. Our implementations and trials point to the potential of these approaches as well as to the need to better tailor them to a diversified population, a task we will undertake in our next steps. During this research we worked with systems in a large scale volunteer-based crowdsourcing domain (citizen science).
